History of Art at NS

Decades ago, David Goode and Arnold McKinnon started a committee tasked with collecting art to display in common areas at the Norfolk, VA headquarters. They wanted employees to be able to enjoy art and feel proud of their workplace. Fast forward to the present, and NS remains committed to supporting local artists and the Atlanta art community.

HQ Art Principles

Much of the art once hung in the McKinnon building has made its way to Atlanta. Each piece in the new HQ embodies NS values and represents at least one of the governing principles developed by the art committee: Persevering, Dynamic, Principled

To support the Atlanta art community, NS has also commissioned or purchased art from several diverse local artists.

Community-based arts practitioners and organizations bring members of a community together to solve problems, build relationships, and get involved in ways that help drive business forward and we are proud to support individuals and organizations.

Artist-in-Residence

Tucked into the modern design of the HQ is a unique and special engagement opportunity for employees. Connected to the building on the corner of Ponce de Leon Ave NW and Spring St NW, next to the Spring St parking garage entrance, will sit a studio space with large glass windows meant for a local artist to simply create. Employees will be able to stop in, interact with the artist and watch them work.

In October, NS will be making a call to artists to interview for a 2-year artist-in-residency program starting in 2022. This free studio space comes with one caveat: the artist must create a piece specifically for NS.
