Hurricane Irma

Sep 11, 2017

Hurricane Irma continues to move across the United States blanketing the Southeast with heavy rain, flooding, and strong winds.  As the hurricane progresses across the Norfolk Southern network, we are actively inspecting our track and facilities and making repairs as needed.

Due to the build-up of inbound shipment inventory at our Jacksonville Intermodal facility, we will open the terminal to outgates only beginning at 7:00am EDT tomorrow, Tuesday, September 12th.  We ask that customers make every attempt to outgate shipments as soon as possible once the facility opens.

At 12:00pm tomorrow we will evaluate inventory levels in Jacksonville to determine when we will be able to open the facility to ingate shipments.

Origin facility gates remain closed to traffic destined to the following locations and will reopen once our routes are deemed safe for movement:

  • Charleston
  • Jacksonville and FEC destinations
  • Savannah-Garden City

All shipments ingated before the aforementioned gate closures will be loaded and advanced to their respective destinations as soon as conditions allow. We will not be able to unload and return shipments once they have been loaded. We will provide additional updates as information becomes available.
