My name is Danny McLemon and I am a member of UTU local #584 in Meridian, Miss. I am a conductor the Norfolk Southern with 25 years of service. I served my country for eight years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. I began working for the Southern Railway after I received an honorable discharge.
Six years ago, I joined the Mississippi Air National Guard and have served my country since then as a veteran of Operation Northern Watch, Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Enduring Freedom. I recently returned from a tour of duty in Southeast Asia as a participant in a 90-day expedition to combat terrorism. During that tour, I was awarded the USAF Achievement Medal.
During my deployment, both of my supervisors, trainmaster M.G. Griffin and SMSgt. Doug Wilkerson, were instrumental in giving my family and me the support we needed while serving my country. NS offered a monthly stipend and continued medical coverage for us which was not required and greatly appreciated. I know of no other company that offered its employees this kind of support. My family and I thank NS. Let's roll.
