Gold Star Mothers
American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. is a federally chartered, non-profit, patriotic organization whose members are American Mothers who have lost a son or daughter while in service to our country. Mrs. Grace Darling Seibold founded the organization shortly after World War I. Mrs. Seibold’s son George was killed in aerial combat over France on August 26, 1918. The organization’s name is derived from the Gold Star that was hung in the windows of families of deceased veterans.
There are 150 chapters of Gold Star Mothers throughout the U.S. The 67th annual national convention was held this year in Norfolk, Virginia over the Fourth of July.
