Letter Writing Campaign - November 12 to 25, 2013
- Please make sure your letters will fit in a standard size envelope; please avoid using greeting cards as they will not fit.
- Include your own name and address in the body of the letter.
- Do not write about politics, religion, death or killing.
- Please do not use glitter.
- This is strictly a letter-writing effort to thank Veterans; please do not send any care package items for Veterans.
- All letters will be screened.
- Send Wounded Warrior / Veteran letters separately
Chili Cook-Off - November 11, 2013
- Official signed chili cook-off registration forms must be received no later than 5PM on November 4, 2013 at Email Veterans.
- A chili entrant team can consist of 2 people, but not required.
- Set up of your assigned area must be complete and chili ready to serve to official judges by 11:00 am.
- Appropriate "themed" decoration of your area and related costuming is encouraged.
- VeteraNS will provide an assigned table, testing cups, spoons and bowls for the public, ballet box, plastic gloves, hair nets and hand sanitizer to contestants. Hats can be substituted for hair nets.
- Chili must be cooked from scratch at home and brought on site the day of the cook-off.
- All foods and ingredients used must be USDA approved and properly processed ex: ( venison )
- A listing of ingredients used to make the chili must be displayed. (Quantities do not need to be included.)
- The chili container must be in a crock-pot or electric roaster to maintain chili temperature and contestants will require extension cords to reach outlets.
- Contestants will provide multiple sets of serving utensils to be changed out in case of contamination.
- All food, equipment and utensils must be stored at least six inches off the floor on tables or shelving protected from contamination.
- No bare hand contact with food is allowed. Hand washing facilities are available in the lobby. REMINDER: Contestants must wash their hands after using toilet facilities, coughing/sneezing, and/or handling soiled equipment, etc.
- All food-handling personnel shall maintain a high degree of personal cleanliness by wearing clean outer garments and hair restraints (cap, hat, or hair net).
- No ATOMIC chili
- All food must be covered when not in use to protect from customer handling, coughing, sneezing or other contamination.
- NO eating or drinking will be allowed by people handling food while in the food preparation service area. NO non-working, unauthorized persons will be allowed in the food preparation service area.
- All personal belongings must be stored away from food, equipment, utensils, etc.
