My son, Chief Petty Officer A.J. Ball, was deployed to Iraq in August 2004.  Chief Ball served with the First Marine Expeditionary Force in Fallujah.  He participated in Operation Phantom Fury in November 2004.  He was a Convoy Commander in charge of 40 personnel.  He was tasked with convoying and protecting Engineers and Civic Affairs personnel in a combat environment.  Chief Ball’s team endured ten direct firefights and had over 110 indirect fire rounds land around them.  Chief Ball was awarded the Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal with Valor for his heroism in Fallujah.
