Roger A. Gregg
Car inspector
Knoxville, Tenn.

Presently, I am serving in the U.S. Navy Reserves in Gulfport, Miss. My active duty began after the USS Cole was attacked, and I have continued on active duty since then.

In March of this year, I was deployed to Iraq to work with a battalion of Seabees, NMCB 24, based at Al Asad. We endured sandstorms of Biblical proportion, more than 100-degree temperatures, constant rocket attacks and having our water lines cut from time to time.

I returned to Gulfport in late June. When Hurricane Katrina roared through Gulfport we were relocated to Little Creek Amphibious Base in Norfolk. I was awarded the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Joint Commendation Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and another Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for this period of active duty.
