I'd like to tell you about Dennis M. Murton UTCS coordinator in Atlanta. He had a military career up until a few years ago when he retired and then he came to work for Norfolk Southern in Harrisburg, Pa. He served in Desert Storm. Here’s a look at his military career and his many honors.  

  • 1980 to 1980 Basic and AIT Ft. Knox, Ky.
  • 1980 to 1983, Tank driver, Tank Loader, Tank Gunner, Departing Award was Army Achievement Award 1st award, 3 certificates of Commendation in the 3 year time frame, Promoted to the Rank of Corporal (E4) and Sgt. (E5), Place of duty was Mannheim, Germany
  • 1983 to 1984, Position was Battle Field Effects Trainer, Rank Sergeant (E5), Departing Award Army Commendation Medal 1st award, Place of Duty was Ft. Irwin, Cal.
  • 1984 to 1988, Position was Tank Commander, Platoon Sergeant, and Company Master Gunner/ Trainer, Departing Award was a Meritorious Service Medal 1st Award, Promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant (E6), Place of duty was Mannheim, Germany, Over the four years I was also awarded Army Achievement Medals 2 and 3rd Award, 4 letters of Commendations, 2 certificates of Appreciations.
  • 1988-1991, Position was Drill Sergeant and Sr. Drill Sergeant, Promoted to the rank of Sergeant First Class (E7), Place of duty Ft. Knox, Ky., Departing award Meritorious Service Medal 2nd award, from 1988-1990 I received Army Achievement Medals 4th, 5th, 6th Awards for training and train computations and honor platoon training, also I received 4 letters of commendations for training, 1990-1991 went to the Gulf to fill a vacancies as a Tank Platoon Sergeant in the Cavalry, and received an Army Commendation medal with a V. I returned to Ft, Knox KY and departed to Germany
  • 1991-1994, Position was Tank Platoon Sergeant and Company Master Gunner/ Trainer, Departing Award, None the Whole Unit was moved from Germany to Ft. Lewis, Wash. Awarded from 1991-1994, I received Army Achievement Medals 7th, 8th and 9th awards, Plus numerous letters or achievement and commendations.
  • 1994-1996, arrived at Ft. Lewis in 1994, My position was the Brigade S-1 shop Sergeant, my duties were to oversee all international administrative duties for equipment, people, and arms. My departing award was the Meritorious Service Medal 3rd Award, other awards were the Army Achievement Medals 10, 11, 12th award.
  • Retirement Oct 16, 1996.
