The Management Trainee program at Norfolk Southern consists of on the job training, professional training, department rotations, and operations training. The program is one year in duration.

Co-Op and Intern program
Co-ops and Interns at Norfolk Southern will be engaged in a robust and meaningful real world corporate experience. The co-op or internship will provide and educational opportunity that integrates a student’s academic and career interests with a paid, productive work experience. Our goal is to provide the opportunity for students to put theory into practice as they apply classroom knowledge to practical work situations.
Co-ops make arrangement with their universities to alternate full-time work and school semesters for two – three alternating semesters.

Meet the NS recruiting team
NS visits colleges and universities during the fall and spring semesters to meet students interested in joining the NS team as a co-op, intern, or as a management trainee. NS is also interested in meeting individuals who have finished their degrees and are currently in the work force.

Patrick Rickard earned a bachelor's degree from the College of Charleston, and a master’s degree from George Washington University. Patrick joined Norfolk Southern in 2004 and has held multiple positions in both Transportation Operations and Human Resources, including his current position as Manager Recruiting.
Kendall Gayle joined Norfolk Southern in 2011 after receiving a bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management from Radford University. Kendall is the primary recruiter for Communication and Signals (electrical engineers), Sourcing, and Casualty Claims. Kendall specializes in building relationships with University of Illinois, Penn State, Virginia Tech, VMI, and Washington & Lee.
Alanna Winsper joined Norfolk Southern in 2011 after receiving a bachelor’s degree in Communications from Elon University. Prior to becoming a college recruiter in 2013, Alanna held multiple positions within the area of employment for the Human Resources department. Alanna is the primary Corporate Recruiter for the Mechanical Department and Research & Test. Alanna specializes in building relationships with the University of Pittsburgh, University of Missouri, and the University of Florida.
Lloyd Thomas earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Lloyd is the primary Corporate Recruiter for Maintenance of Way, Design and Construction and Industrial Development (civil engineers). Lloyd specializes in building relationships with Purdue University, North Carolina State University, and the University of Kentucky.
Rachel Stewart earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia in 2013. Rachel started her career at Norfolk Southern in 2015 as Corporate Recruiting Coordinator and serves as the in-office resource for the Recruiting Team. Rachel has a background in human resources, hiring, and on-boarding.
Chris Snyder earned a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and started his career with Norfolk Southern in 2008. Chris has held various roles in operations, training and most recently recruiting. Chris is the primary Corporate Recruiter for Transportation Operations, Revenue Accounting & Customer Service (RACS), Network & Service Management, and Labor Relations. Chris specializes in building relationships with Syracuse University, Rutgers University, and Michigan State University.
Domingo Gonzalez earned a bachelor’s degree from Hampton University, and master’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. Domingo started his career with Norfolk Southern in 2014 and is now the primary Corporate Recruiter for Information Technology and Strategic Planning. Domingo specializes in building relationships with Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, and Old Dominion University.
